What Can a Professional Scalp Analysis Tell You?

A lot of people come to us saying things like:
“My scalp gets oily so quickly.”“I keep getting flakes.”“My scalp never really feels clean.”“It feels dry, tight or sensitive.”
And the truth is, these concerns can look very different once we actually take a closer look.
At ANAMEI Scalp Spa & Wellness in Braddon, we use a professional scalp analysis device to magnify the scalp and the areas around the follicles. It gives us a much clearer view of what is happening on the surface of the scalp before we talk about treatments or products.
If you are looking for scalp analysis in Canberra or thinking about trying a Japanese Head Spa in Canberra, this is what a professional scalp analysis may help you understand.
Oiliness and Sebum Build-Up
An oily scalp is not always as simple as “too much oil”.
Under magnification, we can look at whether oil is sitting across the scalp surface, collecting around the roots or building up around the follicles.
Sometimes the whole scalp looks oily. Other times, only certain areas do.
This is why we do not automatically assume that stronger cleansing is the answer. In some cases, over-cleansing can leave the scalp feeling even more uncomfortable or tight.
Build-Up Around the Follicles
This is one of the things many clients are most surprised to see.
Dry shampoo, styling products, natural oils, dead skin and product residue can all collect around the scalp and hair roots.
Even if you wash your hair regularly, there can still be areas that look congested or feel difficult to clean properly.
A closer look can help us understand whether your scalp may need more targeted cleansing, a change in routine, or simply a gentler approach.
Flakes, Dryness and Scalp Texture
Not all flakes are the same.
Some look fine and dry. Others appear thicker, more attached to the scalp or mixed with oil.
We may also notice areas that look dry or rough, even when other parts of the scalp appear oily.
That is why treating every flaky scalp the same way does not always make sense.
Sometimes the scalp needs better cleansing. Sometimes it needs less irritation and more balance.
Redness and Sensitivity
Scalp analysis can also help us see visible redness or areas that appear irritated.
That does not mean we are diagnosing a medical condition, but it does help us decide whether an intensive cleansing treatment is really the right choice.
If the scalp already looks sensitive or uncomfortable, a gentler direction may be more appropriate.
Your Scalp Can Look Different in Different Areas
One thing we often notice is that the scalp is rarely exactly the same everywhere.
You may have:
More oil around the hairline
More build-up at the crown
Drier areas at the sides
More sensitive areas in certain sections
This is why we prefer to look at several areas rather than relying on one small section of the scalp.
Why Look First Before Choosing a Treatment?
A lot of scalp care still comes down to guessing.
If it feels oily, people wash more.If they see flakes, they reach for anti-dandruff shampoo. If it feels congested, they try stronger cleansing.
But stronger is not always better.
At ANAMEI, we prefer to look first and then decide what direction makes more sense.
The aim is not to choose the strongest treatment or the most complicated one. It is to choose the option that better suits what your scalp actually looks and feels like right now.
Scalp Analysis Is Not a Medical Diagnosis
Our scalp analysis is designed to observe visible scalp conditions only.
It does not diagnose medical conditions and does not replace advice from a GP, dermatologist or other qualified healthcare professional.
If you are experiencing persistent hair loss, significant inflammation, scalp pain, open wounds, signs of infection or severe ongoing itching, it is always best to seek medical advice.

Scalp Analysis & Consultation
20 minutes | A$20
During the consultation, we look at your scalp under magnification and also talk about things like:
How often you wash your hair
What products you use
Whether you use dry shampoo or styling products
Whether your scalp feels oily, dry, itchy or sensitive
The concerns you have noticed yourself
From there, we can discuss a care direction that makes more sense for your current scalp condition.
At ANAMEI Scalp Spa & Wellness in Braddon, we believe better scalp care starts with understanding what is actually there.
See first. Understand better. Care more appropriately.
